Dear all, I am pleased to announce that the W3C HK Office will hold a symposium on Semantic Web and selected Web technologies at HKUST: Date: Tuesday, 12 April 2005 Venue: Technology Education Theatre, HKUST Time: 9:00am The Semantic Web <http://w3.org/2001/sw/> provides a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise, and community boundaries. It is a collaborative effort led by W3C <http://www.w3.org/> with participation from a large number of researchers and industrial partners. It is based on the Resource Description Framework (RDF <http://www.w3.org/RDF/> ), which integrates a variety of applications using XML <http://www.w3.org/XML/> for syntax and URIs <http://www.w3.org/Addressing/> for naming. According to Tim Berners-Lee <http://www.w3.org/People/Berners-Lee/> , W3C <http://www.w3.org/Consortium/> Director and Inventor of the World Wide Web, "The Semantic Web is an extension of the current Web in which information is given well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation." Dr. Ivan Herman <http://www.w3.org/People/Ivan/> , Head of Offices <http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Offices/> of W3C, will be the main speaker for the symposium. We will also invite some local members to share their experiences and recent achievements using technologies recommended by W3C. For more detailed information and registration, please visit: http://www.w3c.org.hk/Symposium/SWSym/ Best regards, Eva W3C Office in HK c/o Department of Computer Science, HKUST
