Weekly digest of W3C news and trends

This is the 18-25 January 2013 edition of a “weekly digest of W3C news and  
trends" that the W3C Communications Team prepares for the W3C Membership  
and public-w3c-digest mailing list (publicly archived [1]) [sent  
separately]. This digest aggregates information about W3C from online  
media, a snapshot of how W3C and its work is perceived in online media.

Notably this week :

- over 800 stories about W3C on Twitter in 7 days.
- nearly 3000 mentions of W3C in 7 days, with two peaks 20 Jan (832  
mentions) and 21 Jan (573 mentions). The top stories were respectively:
   * Ars Technica’s piece: Microsoft goes its own way with
     Web audio/video spec, despite W3C rebuff
   * Beihang University Becomes Newest Institution to Host W3C
- With 53365 Twitter followers, net increase of 375 followers in the past  
week.
- 13 posts that dlvr.it posted to StatusNet, Twitter and Facebook between  
Jan 16 - Jan 23 got 32.2K (+22%) clicks, delivered to 61.5K (+11%)  
connections.
