RE: Smart Television Civics Software

W3C Voter Decision Support Community Group,

Smart TV applications for C-SPAN could, in a way resembling the C-SPAN website (http://www.c-span.org/), provide more up-to-the-minute content than three cable television channels (C-SPAN, C-SPAN 2, C-SPAN 3). Smart TV applications for C-SPAN could provide users with fresh, searchable multimedia content from cities, states and the federal government.

Smart TV applications for C-SPAN could also provide users with access to multimedia content from the Web utilizing schema of interest to this group, schema for multimedia content from government websites, the websites of political parties and candidates, news articles, interviews, panel discussions, debates, debate coverage and analysis, fact-checking, editorials, letters to the editor, expert content (e.g. content from scientists, historians, economists, foreign policy experts) and encyclopedia articles [1].

Subject: Smart Television Civics Software

W3C Voter Decision Support Community Group,

When considering decision support systems for voters and/or citizen dashboards, some might at first consider mobile computing scenarios. Smart phones are ubiquitous. In addition to such scenarios and in addition to desktop computing scenarios, there are also smart television scenarios to consider. We can envision users, citizens, gathered around their large-screen smart televisions interacting with civics software applications, interacting with information dashboards, navigating through content, consuming multimedia content, and creating content in their homes, participating in various democratic, political and economic processes in their cities, states and nations. It should also be possible to provide integrated experiences across devices, mobile, desktop and television.

I recently contacted C-SPAN with regard to C-SPAN smart television software applications.

Any thoughts on these topics – civics software applications, decision support systems for voters and citizen dashboards – for smart phones, desktop computers and smart televisions?

Best regards,
