[ISWC 2014] Call for Industry Track - DEADLINE APPROACHING

Industry Track *** DEADLINE APPROACHING ***

==================================================================

The 13th International Semantic Web Conference

http://iswc2014.semanticweb.org/

19-23 October 2014, Riva del Garda, Trento, Italy

==================================================================

Research in Semantic Web Technologies is now underway for more than a
decade; applications are piloted and/or put into production not only by
early adopters, but starting to infiltrate mainstream. One of the
challenges of the Semantic Web is now to reach further mainstream markets
and sustain its success. Additionally, because Semantic Technologies often
deliver backend solutions, not visible from the outside, it is not always
easy to recognize their industrial uptake. The objective of this track is
to provide visibility of Semantic Web technology used in industrial
applications, not in prototypes. Apart from prominent flagship application
domains like Linked Data on the Web, Semantic Web techniques can be used in
many industries as a horizontal technology (utilities, media,
telecommunications, healthcare, life sciences, governments, intelligence,
etc, etc) as well as in different application areas (business intelligence,
search, big data, open data, knowledge management, recommendation systems,
social media analytics, knowledge discovery, software and systems
integration, etc).

In this track, we would like to see the Semantic Web in action beyond
academic prototypes: How are Semantic technologies being used by mainstream
or in exciting niche markets? What is your success story? Where do you see
the biggest opportunity for Semantic Technologies in your
business/industry? Come and join us at the ISWC2014 industry track to share
your experience!

TOPICS OF INTEREST
-------------------

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  * Applications of Semantic Web technologies in specific industrial
domains (automotive, financial, healthcare and life sciences, energy
industry, etc.)
  * Successful Application domains:, Knowledge Management, IT Integration,
Search, Customer care, Business Intelligence, Social Media analytics, etc.
  * Applications of Semantic Web technologies in community and governmental
services
  * Industrial trends related to the usage of Linked Data, Open Data and
Semantic Web technologies
  * Financial and strategic investments in Linked Data and Semantic Web
technologies

Successful submissions to this track will emphasize:

  * real-world deployment experiences and strategic decision-making related
to Linked Data and Semantic Web technologies
  * success stories from the deployment of Semantic Web technologies
  * concrete lessons learned from these experiences
  * areas where further research (or research in novel directions) is
required
  * expressions of interest and outlines of potential future applications
of SW in industry

SUBMISSION
-----------

We are receiving submissions in the form of 1-2 page (A4/Letter) abstracts
in HTML or PDF format. Each abstract should describe the content of the
proposed talk, which should be of a technical or strategic nature (i.e.
purely marketing/promotional material will not be accepted). Particularly -
fitting the above-mentioned topics - we encourage the following two
categories of submissions:

  * Success stories of business-relevant, industrial deployments of
Semantic Web technologies
  * Position statements that outlines of potential strategic applications
of Semantic Web technologies

Submissions should be made via the online submission system available at
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iswc2014industrytrac and will
be reviewed by a panel of Semantic Web practitioners from industry and
academia. Accepted submissions will be offered a presentation slot at the
conference. At least one author of each accepted submission is expected to
attend the conference and present the material outlined in the abstract.
Presentation slots are expected to last ~30 minutes, including questions.

Please note that metadata about all successful submissions will by default
be included in the conference metadata corpus and made publicly available
at http://data.semanticweb.org.

Detailed information will be provided with the acceptance notification
(with an opt-out option, e.g. if you don’t want to be named for competitive
reasons).

FORMAT
-------------------------------------------

The industry track at the conference will include

  * a dedicated industry keynote
  * Panels/round tables bringing together both industry and researchers
  * Flashlight presentations for position papers in a separate session
  * Success stories as full presentations (mixed with other tracks of the
conference)
  * opportunities for networking

JOURNAL
-------------------------------------------

A journal special issue on industrial applications of Semantic Web
Technologies is planned as a follow-up to the track, where selected
contributions will be invited.

IMPORTANT DATES
----------------

  * Submission: July 10, 2014
  * Notifications: July 31, 2014

All deadlines are Hawaii time.
