Another View on Transparency

I thought that some on this list might find it interesting to check in on
an on-line forum that will run for two hours this afternoon, with posts
generally continuing for some time thereafter.

Transparency, not surprisingly, is a factor that some governments have
historically taken into effect in deciding which standard setting bodies to
look kindly on and which not. Until recently (to my knowledge) , this
hasn't gone more deeply than favoring ISO/IEC/ITU standards over all others
standards, often pejoratively referred to en masse as "private standards."
A related part of the dialogue now ongoing in Europe is whether to give
increasing credibility to consortium-developed standards, and this is where
the two threads join.

So here is yet another viewpoint to consider on the transparency issue,
while noting that the definition of "transparency" itself remains
subjective.
