Pow and Consensus protocol?

Hey folks,

I'm looking for more information on the underlying proof of work and consensus protocols in place.

From the documentation you can either pay an accelerator (part of the private network and subject to a consensus algorithm I assume?) or you can generate proof of work to have your did accepted (an interesting hook in to an otherwise private network?)

Can someone point me in the right direction?
