Dear all, Find below the proposed text for the liaison letters to MPEG and VR-IF. If you have any comments or objections please send them to the public reflector. We plan to submit the letters on Monday or latest early Tuesday EST. Thanks and best regards, Andreas [[ Dear RECIPIENT, The W3C Timed Text Working Group has decided to address the requirement of how to refer to TTML subtitles in a 3D environment [1]. The driver for this requirement is the use of TTML in immersive environments (especially in 360° videos). Standards and guidelines to address this requirement exist already, and W3C takes note of the specification text in ISO/IEC 23090-2 Information technology -- Coded representation of immersive media -- Part 2: Omnidirectional media format [2]. W3C would like to understand how the use case of presenting subtitles in 3D has been solved by the MPEG group. It would be helpful to get a pointer to the requirements and use cases as well as specification text related to subtitles in OMAF and MPEG. One of these standards is the VR-IF Guideline by the VR Industry Forum [2]. We like to understand the VR-IF recommendations how to present subtitles in 3D and how the Timed Text Working Goup can contribute with an addition to the TTML standard. We propose to establish a liaison with the VR Industry Forum to align our standards efforts. As part of this liaison we see also the exchange of documents and drafts.
