Dear RECIPIENT,

The W3C Timed Text Working Group has decided to address the requirement of
how to refer to TTML subtitles in a 3D environment [1]. The driver for this
requirement is the use of TTML in immersive environments (especially in 360°
videos).

Standards and guidelines to address this requirement exist already, and W3C
takes note of the specification text in ISO/IEC 23090-2 Information
technology -- Coded representation of immersive media -- Part 2:
Omnidirectional media format [2].

W3C would like to understand how the use case of presenting subtitles in 3D
has been solved by the MPEG group. It would be helpful to get a pointer to
the requirements and use cases as well as specification text related to
subtitles in OMAF and MPEG.

Best regards,

Dear RECIPIENT,

to refer to TTML subtitles in a 3D environment. The driver for this
requirement is the use of TTML in immersive environments (especially 360° in

Some standards and guidelines to address this requirement exists already.
One of these standards is the VR-IF Guideline by the VR Industry Forum [2].

We like to understand the VR-IF recommendations how to present subtitles in
3D and how the Timed Text Working Goup can contribute with an addition to
the TTML standard.

We propose to establish a liaison with the VR Industry Forum to align our
standards efforts. As part of this liaison we see also the exchange of
documents and drafts.

Best regards,
