ISSUE-287 (Binary Tunnelling): Generic ability to tunnel BASE64 encoded binary files for legacy support [TTML2] http://www.w3.org/AudioVideo/TT/tracker/issues/287 Raised by: Nigel Megitt On product: TTML2 The EBU has sent a liaison which requests Binary tunnelling, to match the functionality supported in EBU-TT Part 1 [1] via the ebuttm:binaryData element. [1] http://tech.ebu.ch/docs/tech/tech3350.pdf section 3.1.1.2 The ability to tunnel BASE64 encoded binary files within a TTML document for the purpose of maintaining compatibility with legacy infrastructures, for example EBU Tech 3264 (“STL”) files. This functionality is broadly similar to the background image tunnelling mechanism in SMPTE-TT however it is intended to carry a different payload. It is also desired that the binary data be carried not only within metadata in the <head>, which has the effect of requiring any parser to skip to the end of it before being able to start processing the <body>, but also at the end of the document. Some way to implement a "end of the document" section would be useful for this purpose - a <tail> element? Note that there are also associated metadata elements in EBU-TT Part 1 for carrying the equivalent metadata fields from STL documents.
