This email is in response to the request that some images be provided for Issue-286. I hope we can provide a simple proposal for how to express the required behaviour in TTML in the very near future. In the meantime the attached (roughly sketched) image describes a very simple case in which the background of each row of text is extended to enhance readability:

In these images I have not attempted to create the complexity of spans with different background colour – this behaviour should be defined.
