Hi, I'm currently part-time on contract for Google to work on HTML5 video accessibility in particular on W3C/WHATWG specifications. I've worked on video for the Web since starting my PhD in 1994, where we foresaw the explosion of video online and the consequences of "information overload" and thus worked on automated content analysis to machine-extract searchable and timed metadata. After finishing my PhD in Germany, I went on to work for the Australian CSIRO on automated captioning and other time-aligned text approaches. In a project called the Continuous Media Web (CMWeb) we developed Annodex (annotated and indexed media) using Xiph codecs and containers. We had an implementation of hyperlinked and deeply searchable Webs of video in 2001, together with specifications for temporal URIs and a XML-based relative of WebVTT called CMML (continuous media markup language). There was always a committment to open source and open standards in my work. Now, 10 years later, we are finally seeing the vision of CMWeb come to life, which makes me very excited to be part of this group. Cheers, Silvia. --- blog.gingertech.net
