Hi all, My name is Tom, I work for Google Hamburg, Germany as a Research Scientist, and at the moment am also a PhD student at UPC.edu in Barcelona, Spain. This is where most people get confused. So, the PhD is all remote, I live in Hamburg, and get paid by my employer for doing the PhD. In exchange I represent Google in European research projects, most notably in the I-SEARCH project. The topic of my PhD is "Enriching Unstructured Media Content About Events to Enable Semi-Automated Summaries, Compilations, and Improved Search by Leveraging Social Networks". Are your natural language parsers working yet? With media content I mean mostly photos and videos that people take during events and that they put online afterwards (post-processed or raw). Part of my PhD is thus around semantically annotating this video content. The richer the metadata that I have for this task, the better my methods can work, which is the motivation for me to join this group. Looking very much forward to working with you. Is anyone attending ISWC2011 in Bonn, Germany these days? If so, say hi, as I am. Best, Tom Thank God not sent from a BlackBerry, but from my iPhone
