Within the Department of Computing Science at the University of Aberdeen we
are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to work on a high-profile
international project led by IBM and funded by the UK Ministry of Defence
and US Army Research Laboratory.

The ITA project (www.csd.abdn.ac.uk/research/ita) is a joint UK/US research
effort involving 24 world-leading universities and companies, which is
carrying out long-term basic research in network-centric coalition
operations. At Aberdeen we are seeking to recruit a post-doctoral research
fellow in the area of Semantic Matchmaking.

The post holder will be part of a larger team at Aberdeen including three
members of academic staff, one other research fellow and five research
assistants and PhD students. You will be expected to pursue basic research,
and to collaborate closely with other project partners in the UK and USA,
particularly Cardiff University, City University of New York, Penn State
University and IBM. It is an essential requirement of ITA to work in
conjunction with other project partners both to publish
conceptual/theoretical research results and develop prototype software.
Staff will be expected to spend periods of time at other ITA project sites
in the USA and UK. You will be expected to provide a degree of supervision
and leadership to junior colleagues in the team.

You should have a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline. You are
expected to be a highly competent programmer in Java and/or an AI
programming language, and have research experience in ontologies/knowledge
representation and matchmaking/reasoning. Experience working with industry
would be desirable.

The post is being offered for 36 months on a full time basis, and is tenable
from 1 May 2008.
