Dear all, I will send a more detailed answer early next week, replying to all your questions. In the meantime I would like to know if anyone knows of an algorithm (diagram style) or other set of guidelines for choosing the most appropriate intellectual property protection options available for writing and publicizing or licensing of ideas as outlined in definition papers, concept notes, project proposals, outlines of or detailed research programs and projects? Since research is a highly competitive area of human endeavor, protection of intellectual property where deemed necessary, is an unavoidable issue even in the early stages of exploring collaborative research. I have been warned about the intellectual property issues in informational work shops about the Horizon 2020 research program of the European Union. Any suggestions, useful links or guideline documents? You go ahead and get some funding for this project. or submit it to whoever it is intended for 2. while you wait for some response from the agencies you are targeting with this proposal, we create a clear statemenf to make sure everybody understands how it relates to the group ctivity(my guess is that relationship is somewhere in the ontologies and interobarbility bit, some semantic interface work could help accomplish the interoperability goals of the project etc)we would have to answer the questions like_ how is the group members/activities (taken from the first report) can contribute to the project proposed? 3. we decide how long we can wait for some outcome of your proposal submission and keep the group on standby until you get some response from your submission(assuming you get funded in 10 years - good luck - would it make sense to keep the groupopen for that long? by the time you need us most of us will have retired or have changed jobs and careers three times P-) 4 . if your proposal is accepted, we can invite members to become involved and make contributions to the project as per their work/interest how does this sound? Firstand foremost is the issue of climate change and its directcorollaries renewable energy technologies and climate changemitigation/adaptation. Theimpact of climate change on agriculture, food security, watermanagement and health has also made abundantly clear the need toaddress clustered and or overarching issues in sustainabledevelopment in a more manageable fashion, both from a datacollection, big data mining, and from a statistical modelingperspective. Withoutgoing into much details about the operational aspects of thedefinitions of sustainable development (for these see the site :<https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org>,we can summarize the current data and information needs forsustainable development as follows. - the need to be able to address the 17 objectives and 169 goals of the Agenda 2030 in a rigorous formalized fashion, allowing and enabling statistical data exchange and information exchange, using among other indicators currently under development by the IAEG-SDGs, the Inter-agency Expert Group on SDG Indicators, see <http:///unstats.un.org/sdgs/iaeg-sdgss>; - the need to address the ocean of documentation on sustainable development in a more manageable manner, see <https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/resourcelibrary>; - the urgent need to create basic interactive data and information exchange channels between stakeholders in sustainable development, that are open and inclusive and that can be built or based upon readily available Internet services, wireless and mobile services on (smart) phones, tablets, netbooks, notebooks, desktop computers and other (hand held) personal digital assistants; - the need to create the ICT for development (ICT4D) nuts and bolts open software platforms, tools and services to enable the Technology Facilitation Mechanism for Agenda 2030, and - the need to address the Economic, Social and Ecological issues in Agenda 2030 in an interrelated, integrated fashion with respect to new emerging technologies like the Internet of Things, smart agriculture and farming, smart energy grids, smart cities and transport, eHealth and mHealth, and open and inclusive education, research and innovation platforms for sustainable engineering and manufacturing. Theuse of ontologies to create formalized frameworks for access to thewealth of documentation on sustainable development and theapplication of these for statistical data analysis, utilization ofindicators for evaluation of progress in implementing 17 objectivesand 169 goals of Agenda 2030 is the first and most urgent proposedsubject of research. Secondis the need for informational interoperability in e.g. digitaldashboards and semantically interlinked on-line communities, andother platforms, tools and services for interactive exchange of dataand information. Andtertio making sustainable development an open and inclusive processrequires open and inclusive education, research and innovationplatforms for sustainable engineering and manufacturing to be madeavailable to all stakeholders in sustainable development. Thisis achieved by creating standards for technical interoperabilityallowing for effective and efficient interfacing of readily availableopen source and proprietary platforms, tools, services and devices, and make these available for (smart) phones, tablets, netbooks, notebooks, desktop computers and other digital devices.
