Not just in theory: Mastodon supports this:

https://social.coop/.well-known/webfinger?resource=https://social.coop/@J12t
https://social.coop/.well-known/webfinger?resource=https://social.coop/users/J12t

Produces the same document for all the aliases it lists. I think that’s good (although I’d send a redirect to the canonical lookup).
