Hi, here some input aimed at IT-boss people picking up Semantic Web. "The Semantic Web enables companies and individuals to publish information and exchange information, compatible with the current web, based on XML, and standardizing how to publish and integrate information. Data from your content management systems and existing software is the first input for the Semantic Web, like the RSS success story has already shown for web content management. Product information, service description, and more information can be published now by you, either using existing data standards like Dublin Core or FOAF (footnote: more at http://olp.dfki.de/ontoselect/ and http://www.schemaweb.info/), or by creating new standards yourself using RDFS and OWL, which are comparable to XML-Schema or other data definition languages. Your existing data sources, from web content management, intranet systems or database systems, can be connected based on web technology and the RDF. This reduces integration costs and simplifies the IT landscape." treat it as input, (put it on the wiki?) so that we can further elaborate on it. hth Leo -- ____________________________________________________ DI Leo Sauermann http://www.dfki.de/~sauermann Deutsches Forschungszentrum fuer Kuenstliche Intelligenz DFKI GmbH Trippstadter Strasse 122 P.O.
