SWEO Introduction: Jeff Schiffel

I'm Jeffrey Schiffel (Jeff). My experience was originally in software
engineering, later with a systems engineering component. I currently
work in the system of systems arena. I have done Web development for a
couple of years in a Boeing e-business group, where I was the UML and
user interface trainer.

I have growing knowledge of XML, RDF, and OWL. I joined the SWEO-IG to
help publicize the Semantic Web, and because I wish to pull all these
technologies together for use in ontology development for several
programs at Boeing. In my spare time I do research into both knowledge
management and knowledge engineering.

As far as standards development and tools evangelizing, I was once a
team member of an SEPG that took its organization to CMM level 4, and I
have done some CMMI. I've worked with DoD standards, and been a reviewer
of two IEEE or ISO draft standards. I've been involved with a few
international conferences, mainly in conceptual structures and knowledge
representation, and am the "industry day" chair of next year's
International Conference in Conceptual Structures.

I taught information systems as an adjunct instructor at Wichita State
University, where I took the students through E-R data modeling and UML
class modeling (also information systems, reactive systems, and such).
I'm located near the center of the USA, in Wichita, Kansas, where the
wind is always blowing (the state is named after the Kansa Indians, the
"people of the south wind").
