Hi, Just forwarding this mail from a very interested user, about a topic we'll have to decide on quite soon... Ccheers, Antoine -------- Message original -------- Sujet: SKOS properties - RelationshipsBetweenLabels Date: Fri, 11 May 2007 14:17:19 +0200 De: Sini, Margherita (KCEW) <Margherita.Sini@fao.org> Pour: Miles, AJ (Alistair) <A.J.Miles@rl.ac.uk>, Antoine Isaac <aisaac@few.vu.nl> Hi Alistar and Antoine, I have seen that there is a proposal for "RelationshipsBetweenLabels" in SKOS... I think this is very good matter because make more closer SKOS to the model we are working on at FAO. In fact, if you allow more RelationshipsBetweenLabels, and specify WHAT kind of relationships it is, we can in fact represent all our current needs, which are expressed in our current relationships, which can be more or less divided into: - Relationships between different terms: synonym (simmetric) translation (simmetric) has_chemical_formula <--> is_chemical_formula_of has_scientific_taxonomic_name <--> is_scientific_taxonomic_name_of [[related term (simmetric) : if none of previous apply]] optional - Relationships between different strings related to the same term: has_abbreviation <--> is_abbreviation_of has_acronym <--> is_acronym_of spelling_variant (simmetric) has_plural_form <--> has_singular_form has_capitalized_form <--> is_capitalized_form_of (I have others but my list is still ongoing and I have to organize them better) In any case this seems promising. I also still need to study SKOS in OWL-DL as I know its available so that I can check if can be better used to represent agrovoc and the agrovoc-concept server. Hope this helps Margherita
