I am a member of Sun Labs [1] working as part of the Advanced Search Technology project [2]. Our search engine is targetted at intranets and incorporates the ability to use external "knowledge sources" such as taxonomies or ontologies presented as OWL or RDF. Currently the API to those knowledge sources is proprietary and I am keen to adopt a standards-based approach such as SKOS. I am also involved with Sean Bechhofer in a Sun-funded collaborative research project at Manchester University that augments the work started on the COHSE project [3]. Papers describing this work have been published elsewhere, and we anticipate that the code will be open-sourced in the near future. COHSE relies on access to an ontology to present the user with navigational hyperlinks, and the API would benefit from adopting SKOS. My background is in OO, having worked in the finance and IT industry for almost 20 years.
