[ALL][WNET][PORT] ISO TC37 information, contacts & links

Hi all,

I met with Alan K. Melby (delegate to ISO/TC 37 and TMF/LMF workshop leader) and Laurent
Romary (chair of ISO/TC 37/SC 4) at the Berlin Open Forum on Metadata Registries
last month, and had a brief discussion about areas of potential overlap.

>From what I know so far, the terminology community and especially the
translation industry have core business cases that could exploit RDF as an
enabling technology.  Both the SKOS Core and Wordnet metamodels are in this
domain, and development of these specifications could greatly benefit from
related work ongoing in TC 37 & especially SC 4.  In particular, the Terminology
Markup Framework (TMF, ISO 16642) provides an underlying metamodel for designing
XML terminology formats, see:

Scope: Standardization of principles, methods and applications relating to 
terminology and other language and content resources in the contexts of 
multilingual communication and cultural diversity.

Title:  Language Resources Management
Scope: The objective of ISO/TC 37/SC 4 is to prepare various standards by
specifying principles and methods for creating, coding, processing and managing
language resources, such as written corpora, lexical corpora, speech corpora,
dictionary compiling and classification schemes.
