Hi Patrick, --Original Message--: >I want to back up. I am not convinced that this is the correct image >http://dev.w3.org/cvsweb/~checkout~/SVG/profiles/1.1F2/test/png/text-align-07-t.png?rev=1.3&content-type=image/png Actually that is the correct image. >Are we supposed to be using the harness below? I don't think that this test works in any browser according to the currently linked image. >http://dev.w3.org/SVG/profiles/1.1F2/test/harness/htmlObjectMiniApproved/text-align-07-t.html The test may not work in any browser at the moment, which is strange. As far as I recall, Opera passed this in the Tiny 1.2 time frame. >The tiny version of this test seems to work the same as in full and the same in all browsers: >http://dev.w3.org/SVG/profiles/1.2T/test/htmlEmbedHarness/text-align-07-t.html The reference image is wrong. The Devanagari should be hanging off the hanging baseline, this image appears to have been changed from what used to be there (showing incorrect behaviour now). >Help is appreciated This test has been debated a number of times over the years. It all comes down to whether an implementation supports baseline sets for a font as required by OpenType and SVG Fonts or assumes the Western single baseline model or GDI fonts. The relevant section in XSL-FO which describes expected behaviour is this: http://www.w3.org/TR/xsl/#common-font-properties That W3C Recommendation describes mixed baselines and how they align. This is also supposed to be the model in CSS and SVG. So, the reference image in the 1.1F2 test is correct, and it is also the intended result. See also: http://dev.w3.org/SVG/profiles/1.2T/test/htmlEmbedHarness/text-align-08-t.html which is testing the same behaviour using an SVG font (and has an almost correct image, with just a white-space error in it).
