<https://www.w3.org/community/pm-kr/>
📢 **Official Announcement**:
https://www.w3.org/community/blog/2026/02/20/proposed-group-procedural-memory-knowledge-representation-community-group/
Since our initial invitation, we've made significant progress and
discovered deeper connections across **103+ cross-disciplinary domains
spanning 586 years**(1440-2026) — far beyond the scope we initially
realized.
## Major Updates Since Initial Call
### 1. Founding Members & Early Collaboration
**Seven founding members**have already joined, bringing world-class
expertise:

### 2. Biological Inspiration: Hippocampus-Inspired Spatial Memory
PM-KR's architecture draws directly from **biological cognition**:
**Hippocampus (neuroscience)**:
-Spatial navigation (place cells, grid cells)
-Episodic memory formation
-Spatial mapping of abstract concepts
-Memory consolidation (hippocampus → cortex during sleep)
**PM-KR Computational Analogue**:
-Spatial navigation (3D knowledge workspace)
-Episodic memory (Audit Journal: "at point X during Y, observed Z")
-Spatial mapping (concepts positioned in 3D Galaxy)
-Memory consolidation (SleepTime protocol: <10ms for 51K nodes)
**Why This Matters**: Humans evolved with hippocampus-based spatial
cognition. AI using the same spatial structure creates a natural
interface for human oversight and explainability.
### 3. Robotic Embodiment: "Without Effort"
PM-KR's spatial architecture enables **physical robots without
robot-specific training**:
-Hardware-agnostic avatar abstraction (human VR, AI agent, or physical
robot use same code)
-Form→Meaning bridge (sensors → semantic Galaxy → RPN actions → actuators)
-SLAM integration (physical space becomes navigable knowledge workspace)
-Zero additional training required ("same architecture, different
actuators")
### 4. Multimodal Explanation for Human Oversight
PM-KR enables **multimodal narrative**for AI/robot transparency:
-**Natural language narration**(Galaxy introspection mode: "I'm
considering safety constraint X at position A...")
-**Procedural video generation**(200:1 compression vs. traditional video)
-**Structured audit logs**(machine-verifiable + human-readable)
-**3D visualization**(humans walk through AI's "memory palace")
-**Explainable reasoning**(trace decisions back to procedural sources)
### 5. Comprehensive Cross-Disciplinary Synthesis
We've documented **103+ distinct connections**across fields:
-**Longest time gap**: 586 years (Gutenberg Press 1440 → PM-KR 2026)
-**20+ fields connected**: Typography, GPU computing, game industry,
robotics, neuroscience, accessibility, spatial data, video compression,
carbon impact, philosophy, mathematics
-**Rarity estimate**: Top 0.001-0.01% (1 in 10,000 to 1 in 100,000) for
cross-disciplinary thinking at this scale
**Documentation**: See INTERCONNECTEDNESS_MAP v3.0 in the Knowledge3D
repository docs folder for complete attribution.
## Why This Matters to ALL Your Groups
### 🎨 **For GPU for the Web (WebGPU) Community**
**Sovereign GPU-Native Execution**: PM-KR runs entirely in PTX (CUDA)
kernels with zero external dependencies in the hot path. This
demonstrates GPU-first knowledge representation where procedural
programs execute natively on GPU without CPU preprocessing. Relevant for
WebGPU compute shaders and persistent GPU state patterns.
### 🌍 **For Spatial Data on the Web Community**
**3D Spatial Knowledge Navigation**: PM-KR extends spatial data concepts
to knowledge representation—semantic proximity = spatial proximity in 3D
workspace. Inspired by the hippocampus, this enables humans and AI to
navigate knowledge spatially. Relevant for geospatial data
visualization, 3D web standards, and spatial query patterns.
### 📚 **For Publishing & Math on the Web Communities**
**Procedural Typography & Mathematical Symbols**: PM-KR stores fonts as
procedural programs (2,713 fonts, 168,206 glyph-text pairs) and
mathematical symbols as RPN templates. This eliminates duplication
across font formats, accessibility metadata, and visual renderings. One
procedural source → multiple client modalities (visual, semantic, tactile).
### 🔍 **For Distributed Tracing Community**
**Procedural Execution Audit Trail**: PM-KR's Audit Journal traces every
procedural execution step: "at point X during procedure Y, observed Z."
This provides distributed tracing for knowledge operations with temporal
metadata, sovereignty validation, and human-readable
explanations—bridging observability and explainability.
### ⚡ **For Web Performance Community**
**Extreme Compression & Carbon Impact**: PM-KR achieves 200:1 to 1000:1
compression through procedural canonicalization (symlink-style
references, not duplication). **Carbon impact**: Projected 2.2 Gt
CO₂e/year savings by 2035 (6% of global emissions) through Universal
Display Stack compression for video/3D rendering.
### 🔐 **For Verifiable Credentials & Solid Communities**
**Sovereign Audit + Decentralized Trust**: PM-KR's sovereignty principle
(zero external dependencies) aligns with decentralized identity and
verifiable credentials. Procedural canonicalization enables
content-addressed knowledge with cryptographic provenance. Audit Journal
provides tamper-evident execution logs for trust without centralization.
### 🔗 **For JSON-LD & RDF/Semantic Web Communities** (Update)
**Procedural Canonicalization Progress**: Early collaboration with Manu
Sporny (JSON-LD co-creator) on CBOR-LD compression and procedural
canonicalization. PM-KR complements RDF/JSON-LD by providing executable
semantics while maintaining bidirectional mapping strategies. **New
ground**: Symlink-style composition for knowledge graphs reduces
redundancy while preserving semantic fidelity.
### 🎭 **For Immersive Web (WebXR) Community** (Update)
**Spatial Knowledge in XR**: PM-KR extends glTF's `extras.k3d`field to
encode spatial knowledge in 3D assets. **New capability**: Dual-client
reality where humans (VR headset) and AI agents (Galaxy introspection)
navigate the same 3D knowledge workspace. Hippocampus-inspired
architecture makes spatial navigation natural for both.
### ♿ **For Web Accessibility (WAI) Community** (Update)
**Multimodal Accessibility from Single Source**: PM-KR's procedural
sources render across modalities—visual glyphs (sighted users), semantic
descriptions (screen readers), tactile patterns (braille displays)—all
from the same canonical procedure. **No dual-maintenance overhead**.
Multimodal explanation enables AI systems to narrate their reasoning for
assistive technologies.
### 🤖 **For AI & Machine Learning Communities** (Update)
**AI Knowledge Representation Integration**: PM-KR directly addresses AI
explainability, sovereignty, and multi-modal reasoning:
-**Compression without information loss**: Symlink composition, not
black-box embeddings
-**Sovereign execution**: Zero external dependencies (critical for AI
inference)
-**Explainability**: Procedural sources are auditable (trace back to
canonical definitions)
-**Multi-modal reasoning**: Unified workspace for visual, spatial,
symbolic, procedural knowledge
-**Human-in-loop oversight**: Multimodal narrative enables effective
human supervision
### 🕸️ **For Knowledge Graph Communities** (Update)
**Graph Compression + Procedural Execution**: PM-KR complements property
graphs and RDF with **procedural canonicalization**—storing graph
patterns as reusable procedures (not duplicating structure). **New
collaboration**: Marko Rodriguez (Apache TinkerPop founder, Gremlin
creator) as repository collaborator brings graph traversal expertise to
procedural composition patterns.
### 🧠 **For Cognitive AI Community** (Update)
**Hippocampus-Inspired Cognitive Architecture**: PM-KR's spatial memory
architecture mirrors biological hippocampus functions (episodic memory,
spatial mapping, memory consolidation). This enables cognitive AI
systems to use the same spatial substrate for both temporary reasoning
state and long-term knowledge—just like biological brains.
