Invitation to HDRio20|21II International Congress on the Digital Humanities in Rio de Janeiro

To Tim Berners-Lee and the W3C SOLID Community,

I am Alexandra Joy Forman, founding director of Instituto Urca, in Rio de Janeiro. We are a non-profit, non-governmental organization working with oral history and life stories to mobilize for social-environmental causes. This years theme, Contemporary Crossroads, is a tribute to the work of Tim Berners-Lee. Inspired by your Contract for the Web and SOLID PODS, we opted to jump the wall of the Academy and extend the event to the streets and crossroads of the city, from the neighbourhood of Urca by the SugarLoaf Mountain, inviting residents, visitors, institutions and companies to participate in Rio de Janeiro's II International Congress on the Digital Humanities (virtual on the StreamYard platform) from April 12-16, 2021, where we have 300+ academic speakers programmed and 1000+ viewers expected via Youtube and Even3.

We would very much like to count on the participation of Inrupt Inc. and the W3C SOLID Community:

-We humbly inquire about Tim Berners-Lee's interest and availability to deliver a keynote address (20 to 60 MIN). This could open the Congress, on April 12, or close it, on April 16. This address could also be pre-recorded.

-We would also like to invite a member of the SOLID team, and we ask for your suggestion, to talk about PODS and Security and Interoperability of personal archives for a section we have on the Digital Humanities and our powers as citizens on the Web. (20 MIN).

We think the walls that separate research and practice, and which in many places have already been torn down, in Brazil, still guard and separate. It is a complicated moment in Brazil, politically, in terms of fake news, control of vaccines and citizens everywhere are locked in their homes or in hospitals or out in the landscape, and what is most felt is a lack of individual control. As we make this transition to greater online co-existence, we think that our work could be a good match for SOLID. And SOLID might be a solution for greater democratic, citizen proactivity on the Web.
