Hello all, My name is Hans Constandt, I have a very happy family with 3 kids, I am based in Belgium, I have way too many hobbies from which travelling, snowboarding, networking, ... and I work for a pharmaceutical multinational Eli Lilly as 'Senior Business Consultant' - whatever is in the name ;-). My background is in medicine, biotechnology, bioinformatics, software engineering and drug discovery. The last 4 years, I switched from being a bioinformatics account manager for the Eli Lilly Eu affiliates to leading and assisting global projects in the area of knowledge management and data integration. I always work with networked teams with folks from the US, Europe and Asia and thus always learning from other cultures. Next to the multinational work I also am very active in the non-profit sector with an open source spirited mindset and member of several think-tanks for the Flemish government. I might even start up something pretty innovative in the area of social networks applying the crowds of wisdom to economical successfull models in the coming year ;-). Within the W3C, I'm new and hope get your help on how to add value and drive where I can. My main interest will be in portability, ownership, privacy, linkage, portability and valorisation of social data. At this point I don't do any technology deep dives anymore :-( but I do even better understand the bussiness/scientific/patient/doctor needs and might add most value in bussiness scenarios and industrial valorisation with or without PoC's. Within my current role I can also connect to a broad network of colleagues within Lilly that are already member of W3C groups (SPARQL) as well as very advanced software developers and semantic experts. Hope this adds enough context and might help a tiny little bit to get this group to success. Cheers, Hans Hans CONSTANDT MCIE iDIT Senior Business Consultant "Discovery consists of looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different" Albert Szent-Gyorgi S.A. Some people have already done so. If you could, just give everyone your name, your organization if you have one, and what your background and hopes for the Social Web XG are. I'm Harry Halpin, from the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, and now W3C Fellow. My background is pretty varied in computer science research, mostly in statistical techniques, machine-learning, and the Semantic Web. My most well-known work is on the dynamics of tagging systems, and I'm interested primarily in large-scale open standards for social network data-mining that will make my life as a researcher of these systems easier. However, I strongly believe that the user should own their own data and expicitly let others user it for research as needed, so I'm also very much an advocate for user's rights and electronic freedom and privacy. My main work in this XG will be really pushing us to deliver a roadmap for future W3C standardization in the area. Look forward to working with you all!
