(If you omit the phrase in commas in the current definition, the definition no longer makes sense, and the temporal "when" offends my sense that this is structural definition). Suggested revision is quite simple: A cycle is formed for an element E if the path that is formed by recursively following an SML reference that is a descendant of E to its target leads back to E. Also, I don't recall that part of the discussion at the F2F reintroduced the sml:ref="true" attribute at the schema level (as represented in Proposals 2 & 3). Was this reintroduced during the subsequent conference call?
