Re: [Errors] Working Session Wednesday 18 August 2021

Present: Todd, Jake, Sarah
Regrets: Jemma

Jake shared feedback on Error Prevention guideline <https://w3c.github.io/silver/guidelines/#error-prevention>, expanding on comment in 17 Aug AGWG survey <https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/35422/wcag3-error-prevention-pre-cfc/results>, much work not reflected in guideline, difficult to wrap head around structure. Noted that methods should have “or” relationship rather than “and” relationship, and that Input instructions provided outcome methods have “and” relationship and may need to be restructured into separate outcomes. Questioned long list of functional categories. Questioned whether requirements from other guidelines (e.g., clear words) should be included.
Jake shared framework from the functional needs group defining user needs, user functions, and user outcomes. Proposed mapping error prevention user needs <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BEzSKUsoMQZAwLY5uM5T4Jk7vqKruQT8EaheijQJ7nk/edit#gid=1549778244> to framework.
Discussed value of simplified outline showing structure of errors guidelines.
Discussed next steps, move forward with updating content in editor’s draft in response to survey and then pause development of new content. Jake will take the error group’s user needs inventory and map it to new framework from the functional needs group. From there we can revisit the structure and work to solidify the approach and content.
Next steps:
Respond to survey results with new PR (Sarah)
Map errors user needs to functional needs framework (Jake)
