Re: Planning to close Linked Data Models for Emotion and Sentiment Analysis Community Group due to inactivity unless we hear from you

Dear administrators and dear members of the group,

For those who don't know me, I am one of the co-chair of this community
group. I will try to keep this e-mail brief while addressing all the
points. I believe a longer discussion on the state of the CG should be
had in the upcoming weeks.

First of all, thank you for not closing this group earlier this year.
The notice coincided with the start of a project at UPM with an emphasis
on linked data models for sentiment-related tasks. We had internally
discussed opening up our efforts and involving the CG so that this work
could benefit the whole community. We also gathered feedback from other
members in private, and our conclusion was that the community group is
very much needed, as evidenced by recent works and projects. Hence my
response about our intention to reactivate the group. Unfortunately, the
start of that specific project was delayed and modelling efforts have
only recently started.

After analyzing the current state of the group and area, we would like
the following set of actions in the short/mid term:

- Reinstating a schedule of regular meetings (bi-weekly or monthly for
now) to discuss the activity
- Updating the group's wiki with each partner's new activity, new trends
and projects in the space
- In the same vein, we should invite new professionals to join the group
- Gathering a new set of use cases. The field is evolving and so are the
types of annotations needed.
- Proposing a timeline for a new set of public guidelines which take
into account the new vocabularies and needs in the space
- Revising our strategy for communication. We could benefit from regular
publications related to this CG's topics that are easier to consume
- Revising our social media strategy
- Discussing in-person events. I believe the workshop we organized was
very helful in increasing activity in this group and getting new members
to join.

I have taken the liberty of contacting experts in the field that are not
currently members of the group to invite them and to discuss other forms
of collaboration.

Having said that, all these tasks require a lot of coordination and
steering, as does running a successful community group. We would really
benefit from a new set of chairs who can devote the time and effort
needed, and hopefully bring new ideas to the table. Hence, I propose
Sergio Muñoz (in CC) as my replacement. Sergio is actively working on
related projects. He is also eager to work on bringing back the
discussion on these topics. If he were elected, I could help him take
over my duties and oversee the transition to make sure he gets up to
speed as fast as possible.

Lastly, I urge all participants to contribute their opinion on this
topic and help reactivate this group. I know it is work, but it will be
worth it for all of us individually and for the community as a whole.

Best regards,
---
