We are seeking a highly motivated and talented researcher to join our team for the project BETTER (Better rEal-world healTh-daTa distributEd analytics Research platform) funded by the Horizon Europe Framework Programme. Our team at Politecnico di Milano will be partnering with other research partners. This compelling opportunity involves working at the intersection of data management and artificial intelligence to achieve the realization of a distributed European platform to deliver AI-assisted services for precision medicine. The outcome of the project will advance the state-of-the-art management of clinical/genomic data and AI models for healthcare providers in the context of a federated, privacy-preserving, and FAIR society. If successful, the project will have a substantial impact on the collection of patient data by medical institutions, promoting interoperability and reuse of medical data, thus paving the ground for distributed AI solutions for precision medicine. Involved Partners The project involves six European universities, three companies, and seven clinical hospital partners. The candidate will be employed at Politecnico di Milano, with flexible hours and the possibility of remote working when interacting with the clinical partners, which are scattered across European countries. The candidate will frequently collaborate with other researchers in the team. Required Skills Ideal candidates should: * hold (or currently be pursuing) a Ph.D. in Computer Science (with basic/medium knowledge about biological/clinical/genomics data) or in Biology/Medicine (with good computational skills). * have prior experience in data preparation, data integration, knowledge engineering, and data science in life sciences. * show proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R and in database design and querying. * hold communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment. * demonstrate fluency in English, spoken and written (the Italian language is a plus but not essential). Candidates not holding/currently pursuing a PhD but with a Master's Degree in the same areas will also be considered if they have acquired comparable expertise along their career. Role * Collaborate with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team and contribute with European partners to the study, design, and implementation of a repository for data and AI models that meets the FAIRness criteria. * Conduct analysis, categorization, and systematization of the datasets available at the project's medical centers and design a data integration schema to be used in the next phases. * Contribute to the design and implementation of pseudo-anonymization, integration pipelines, and FAIRification techniques. * Help in the management of PhD and Master students, mainly during the implementation phases. * Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals. * Participate in project meetings, workshops, and conferences to disseminate research outcomes and foster collaborations. Contract Type and Salary This is a full-time, non-permanent contract with a duration of 1 year, with the possibility of renewal. The salary will be approximately 2000 EUR net monthly. Flexible/remote working hours are allowed. The candidate will be working under the supervision of Dr. Pietro Pinoli, Dr. Anna Bernasconi, and Prof. Cinzia Cappiello (Politecnico di Milano). Starting Date The position will be officially advertised in December 2023 and start in February 2024. How to Apply We are open to considering applicants with different backgrounds. To show your interest please send an e-mail to pietro.pinoli (at) polimi.it attaching: * Curriculum Vitae * LinkedIn/Google Scholar/Github profiles * Sample publications (if any) * Academic/Professional references (if any) Research Field Computer science, Knowledge Engineering, Life Sciences
