Call for Contributions: Role of Ontologies in Biomedical AI

Dear Colleagues,

As part of ICBO 2022, we would like to organize a workshop to discuss
the role ontologies can play in biomedical AI, in particular in relation
to machine learning applications in biomedicine.

Example questions we would like to address in the workshop are

- Does the improvement in ontology quality in the past years reflect
their impact on biomedical machine learning methods?
- How does ontology consistency impact machine learning?
- What is missing from bio-ontologies for them to have more impact on AI
  methods?
- How can we leverage machine learning to improve the bio-ontology ecosystem?

The aim of the workshop is to have a discussion about all aspects
related to ontologies, machine learning, and AI in general, and we
accept position statements as well as short research papers. Researchers
interested in the relation between machine learning and ontologies, in
any area of life sciences, are encouraged to contribute.

Submission deadline: 30 August 2022
Notification: 7 September 2022
Workshop date: afternoon, 25 September 2022
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan

Submission link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=robi2022
Workshop website: https://bio-ontology-research-group.github.io/icbo-2022-ml-workshop/

Topics of interest for both research and position papers include

- ontologies, graph embeddings, ontology embeddings
- neural reasoning with biomedical ontologies
- ontologies and Natural Language Processing
- machine learning in ontology evaluation
- ontologies and explainability
- biomedical ontologies in general AI
- neuro-symbolic integration in biomedicine

With best wishes,
Robert.
