I was supposed to travel to present at the US Semantic Technology Symposium (US2TS) that starts tomorrow. I was looking forward to catching up with other semantic folks about FHIR/RDF and other other things. But with the coronavirus rapidly spreading, I decided to cancel my travel and instead participate by video. This disease outbreak also got me thinking about the unnecessary transmission vector that is caused when people shake hands. In response, Dr. Rafael Richards and I have initiated a "Bow, Don't Shake" effort to encourage people to bow gently instead of shaking hands. See https://www.BowDontShake.org/ The goal is to change our greeting culture to be a little safer, by eliminating one very common disease transmission vector. Please share this message with colleagues and friends, and post or tweet it to social media. And if you have contacts in health or government organizations, reach out to them to have them spread this message. The website also has ready-made downloadable materials. Be safe. Be responsible. Reduce disease transmission. #BowDontShake Thanks! David Booth
