Tutorial proposals for SWAT4LS extended to August 24

Tutorial proposals consist of up to four pages describing the rationale for
the tutorial, its content delivery style and the experience of presenters,
they should be sent via email to mscottmarshall@gmail by August 24th.

We are looking for hands-on tutorials that are either applied to biomedical
data or can be used to enhance or build tools that do so. So, for example,
a tutorial that shows how to build an application that aids specific tasks
in health care or life sciences would be interesting. Also, we will
consider a limited number of tutorials that cover basics: how to use some
parts of the Semantic Web stack such as SPARQL or OWL, or how to make use
of them from a programming language, API, or framework.

Please see the tutorials in the scientific programme from previous years
(e.g. SWAT4LS 2014
<http://www.swat4ls.org/workshops/berlin2014/scientific-programme/>, SWAT4LS
2013 <http://www.swat4ls.org/workshops/edinburgh2013/scientific-programme/>)
for examples of what we seek.

Key dates

- Abstract and paper submission open now
- *EOI for tutorials 24th August*
- *Abstract submission 7th September*
- *Full Paper submission 15th September* (Midnight UK)
- Poster abstracts 1st October
- Notification of acceptance 15th October

- Tutorials Mon, 7 December, 2015
- Conference Tues, 8 December and Weds, 9 December, 2015
- Hackathon Thur, 10 December, 2015

The 2015 SWAT4LS conference will provide the same open, vibrant and
well-organised environment that has previously brought together
researchers, developers, and users, from many fields to discuss goals,
current limits and real experiences in the use of Semantic Web technologies
in health care and the life sciences. The next SWAT4LS will be held in
Cambridge, UK, 7-10th December 2015 and will be a full conference for the
first time. SWAT4LS 2015 will be a tutorials day (7th), main conference
(8th and 9th), and a Hackathon day (10th). Tutorials and the conference
itself will be held in Clare College, Cambridge and the Hackathon will be
at the European Bioinformatics Institute, Hinxton, Cambridge. Conference
details are to be found at http://www.swat4ls.org/workshops/cambridge2015/.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to Semantic Web
technologies in the following areas:

- Tools for the management and analysis of semantic data in the life
sciences, medicine and health care
- The description, integration, analysis and use of data in pursuit of
challenges in the life sciences, medicine and health
- Semantically enabled tools for the life sciences, medicine and health
- Knowledge representation for biomedical knowledge bases
- Harnessing biomedical ontologies and terminologies with medical standards
for information exchange
- Electronic Health Records (EHRs), patient data and clinical trial data
- Enabling translational medicine and personalized medicine
- Semantic scientific publishing in the life sciences, medicine and health
- Rule based systems exploiting semantics
- NLP and text mining using semantic technologies
- Emerging technologies in Semantic Web, e.g. JSON-LD, graph databases
- Empirical studies and evaluation of Semantic Web tools and applications
in the life sciences
- Related standards such as CDISC, HL7 and LOINC used with semantic
technology
- Ethical issues and data governance in health care and medical data on
Semantic Web
- Future directions for Semantic Web technologies in the life sciences

The following types of submissions on a topic of interest to the SWAT4LS 2015
audience are sought:

Long papers:
1. Research papers - Original research.
2. Software papers - New applications and tool descriptions.
Short papers: Position papers, application notes, discovery notes, using
Semantic Web applications and tools or a short version of a long paper
topic.
Tutorials: Presenting teaching and learning material.
Software demos - Present software and tools in action.
Posters: An opportunity to present work in the area informally centred on a
poster.

Authors of accepted paper contributions to SWAT4LS 2015 will be invited to
submit to a special issue of the BMC Journal of Biomedical Semantics.

All submissions will be handled via the EasyChair submission system
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=swat4ls2015. All details found via
