Postdoc recruitment

Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Pathology is seeking a
highly motivated postdoctoral associate to work as part of a collaborative
project with the Center for Data Annotation and Retrieval (CEDAR,
http://med.stanford.edu/cedar.html). CEDAR is an NIH BD2K Center of
Excellence whose goal is to create a unified framework that researchers in
all scientific disciplines can use to create consistent, easily searchable
metadata. The successful candidate will join the Kleinstein and Cheung labs
at Yale, and collaborate closely with CEDAR, the Human Immunology Project
Consortium (HIPC) and the NIAID ImmPort team to address problems related to
the annotation and standardization of "Big Data" being generated in the
field of immunology.

Big Data offers tremendous opportunities for scientific researchers.
However, these data are not usable until they can be "explained" (or
annotated) in a way that both humans and computers can process. The proposed
project will involve research to develop information technologies to make
the authoring of complete metadata and data more manageable, and to
facilitate the use of metadata in the integration and analysis of Big Data
sets in immunology.

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of ontologies and data
standards, strong quantitative and programming abilities, along with a
demonstrated interest in applying these skills to problems in biology.
Knowledge of immunological experimental methods, as well as experience with
databases and web services would also be considered strong positives.

Interested candidates should forward a CV and short description of research
interests together with the names and addresses of three references to:
