SSB2013: Call for Papers (Workshop on Semantic Systems Biology, July 7, Montreal) (apologies for cross-posting, please distribute) ----------------------------------- Workshop on Semantic Systems Biology 2013 - C A L L - F O R - P A P E R S - July 7th, Montreal, Canada Submission deadline: April 15th https://sites.google.com/site/semsysbio ---------------------------------- The Workshop on Semantic Systems Biology 2013 (SSB2013) will be held as part of the International Conference on Biomedical Ontologies (ICBO2013) at Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec, on July 7th, 2013. The event is part of the Semantic Trilogy 2013 featuring: International Conference on Biomedical Ontologies (ICBO 2013) Canadian Semantic Web Symposium (CSWS 2013) Data Integration in the Life Sciences (DILS 2013) Semantic systems biology is an emerging interdisciplinary area that combines computational biology with formal knowledge representation and reasoning in order to accurately build, annotate, publish, share and validate facts and computational models concerning biological entities and phenomena. The Workshop on Semantic Systems Biology aims to bring together individuals who undertake research, build and use tools and technologies pertinent to semantic systems biology. We seek presentations of new or enhanced ontologies, ‘omics datasets, and innovative tools for working with semantically annotated large scale datasets, models, simulations and results. A series of flash talks gives researchers the possibility to advertise their ongoing work. Finally, the workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to have a frank discussion about the state of the art and what we as a community need to focus on in the next 3 years. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * ontologies & terminologies in computational systems biology * knowledge representation and semantic annotation of models, simulations and results * semantic web technologies for description, integration, analysis, query and discovery of model-related knowledge * applications of ontologies in computational systems biology/medicine/neuroscience * semantic platforms for authoring, executing, and visualizing models and simulations * semantics in collaborative model development We welcome the submission of long research papers (up to 7 pages), short research papers (up to 4 pages), position papers and late breaking reports (up to 1 page) via Easychair until April 15, 2013.
