This Leader ensures that the investments in technology services and solutions have maximum impact on the portfolio of R&D products in the San Francisco area. It is expected that this role will work with the West Coast Business Technology team, research leaders, scientists, service providers, application specialists, bioinformaticians, and site and global R&D BT colleagues. The person in this role is responsible for leading a technical team of 2-3 people responsible for solutions delivery, application support and laboratory workflow enablement. This Manager role will also be expected to contribute to the successful execution of BT projects in a technical capacity, such as project management, business analysis, system configuration, user training, and solution development. *Responsibilities* Business Partner responsibilities: • Partner with Rinat and CTI scientists to understand their challenges and proactively identify ways information technology can contribute • Develop a BT solutions roadmap aligned with the research strategy and broader company and industry trends • Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders at multiple levels in the organization and manage expectations as needed • Liaison to Rinat’s leadership teams, contributing both general leadership and deep expertise in informatics and the external solution landscape Manager, Research BT - manage a team of 2-3 technology experts with a mix of scientific & technical skills to deliver : • Application of Research BT solutions to improve scientific workflows • Training for informatics tools • Projects in laboratory automation • Data analysis, data management and visualization • Solutions to enable computational analysis • Delivery of technical solutions Technical Contributor • Given the smaller size of the BT staff at the two San Francisco locations, it is expected that the manager would also be spending perhaps up to half their time as a technical contributor to projects. *Qualifications* EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar technical field. Complementary degree/major in Biology or Bioinformatics is a strong plus. TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS The candidate should have strong technical skills in most aspects of solution delivery in a research environment, such as data analysis, relational database concepts/design, solution design, software development, business analysis, software evaluation/configuration, workflow automation/scripting, system support, documentation, and training. Our customers are Pfizer’s own research scientists. The successful candidate will have enough knowledge of biology and pharmaceutical research (through education and/or career experience) to be able to understand the scientists’ vocabulary and translate their needs into solutions. This role requires superior interpersonal and relationship-building skills; the ability to interact with a wide variety of scientists (from lab technicians to scientific leaders) and BT colleagues. The ability to move easily between high level directional discussions with business leaders and low level technical problem-solving is a must.
