[Apologies for cross-posting] CALL FOR PAPERS Special Issue on New Trends on Biomedical Knowledge Acquisition and Information Processing Systems - Journal of Medical Systems Dear Colleagues, We would like to encourage you to submit papers to Special Issue on New trends on Biomedical Knowledge Acquisition and Information Processing Systems which will be published in Journal of Medical Systems (JCR 2010: 1.064). Over the last years, Biomedical Knowledge acquisition and information processing systems have gained momentum as a main research fields in the biomedical informatics area. Biomedical knowledge acquisition has motivated the necessity of extracting, storing and processing this particular type of knowledge, promoting the emergence of new techniques which should be adapted to the constant evolution in the bioinformatics field. Information processing systems have been appraised as vital to enable the acquisition of biomedical knowledge given the vast amount of information generated by new medical equipment, taking into account the nature of task environment in which processes operate. A particular example to delve in are the new medical image modalities which require image registration processes that can take advantages of different algorithms but they can involve new processing systems. On the other hand, the evolution of the Web requires a new unwavering breed of knowledge extraction, acquisition and processing techniques adapted to the new models for the Web. Web 2.0 is a great example of this kind of evolution, where the users communicate with other users through Web platforms where the information is stored in several ways. Hence, this evolution will be forced to yield a new lattice of breaking techniques adapted to new times. However, the improvements of actual techniques are fundamental for the extraction of biomedical knowledge from classic sources which are still a big source of resources. Given this situation, this special issue intends to publish new research advances on the mentioned field. Potential topics for research papers include, but are not limited to: • Biomedical Knowledge mining over social environments • AI based clinical decision support • Biomedical data acquisition and system engineering • Semantic Web based biomedical and health care mining and their applications • Distributed e-Healthcare systems • Methods and tools for biomedical data analysis and interpretation • Intelligent and seamless human computer interaction for biomedical systems and information processing systems • Applications of information and communication technologies for monitoring, treatment and follow-up in high prevalence medical fields for developing healthcare systems Submission Guidelines and Other considerations This special issue will publish a maximum of 5 regular research papers (up to 15 pages) and 3 work in progress papers (up to 7 pages). Authors should indicate in the cover letter which types of paper are submitting. An abstract submission is mandatory to allow to editors a better assignment of reviewers. For this reason, authors which pretend to submit a paper to this special issue should send an email with title, abstract and type of submission (regular paper or work in progress paper) to the main guest editor (Alejandro Rodríguez) before May 15, 2012. Final submission of the papers should be done using EM platform of Journal of Medical Systems at https://www.editorialmanager.com/joms/. Papers submitted must have not been published previously or under consideration for publication, though they may represent significant extensions of prior work. All submitted papers will go through a rigorous peer-review process (with at least two reviewers) that will include both programmatic relevance as well as scientific quality. The acceptance process will focus on those papers that address innovative methods for adopting and implementing new techniques on Biomedical Knowledge Acquisition and Information Processing Systems.
