Graduate Students
We are always interested in top graduate students, with a particular emphasis on those with a background in Semantic Web, Web Science, eScience, or scientific informatics. We are particularly interested in students who have work experience beyond just their undergraduate coursework and/or who have been involved in Web research or business activities. Students may apply for PhDs in Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Earth and Environmental Science, or Multidisciplinary science. Information on applying to RPI can be found on the campus website for graduate admissions. (Students interested in eScience or science informatics using semantic technologies may wish to contact the Tetherless World Constellation faculty directly with respect to admissions criteria and policies. Visiting student positions are also a possibility in some circumstances.)

Undergraduate Research
The Tetherless World Constellation (TWC) is setting up an undergraduate research laboratory for RPI students interested in doing work in the topics above and especially in exploring the connection between the Tetherless World Constellation and EMPAC. Mechanisms for research activities include independent studies, part time positions (URPs), and summer positions. Interested students should contact the appropriate TWC faculty member for their interest areas.

Internships
From time to time, TWC has opportunities for students (primarily) at all levels to visit as interns. We accept applications in the form of a cover letter stating interests, period of proposed internship and resume to one of the TWC [People Professors]. Applications are considered in batches and are primarily available for summer. For 2011 applications will be consider by April 15.

We welcome candidates who will bring diverse intellectual, geographical, gender and ethnic perspectives to Rensselaer’s work and campus communities -- Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer
