Dear all, The HCLS team at DERI is expanding -- this might be of interest to some readers of this mailing list. Please don't hesitate to write an e-mail if you have any questions. Cheers, Matthias Samwald DERI Galway ================================================= Post Doctoral Researcher (2,5 year post) DERI - National University of Ireland, Galway The Unit for Health Care and Life Sciences (HCLS) at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI: http://www.deri.ie/) of the National University of Ireland, Galway invites applications for a full-time post doctoral research position. As part of the position, the successful candidate will participate in an FP7 project with the goal of improving collaboration and data sharing in cancer prevention research. DERI is a leading research institute in semantic technologies that offers a stimulating, dynamic and multi-cultural research environment, excellent ties to research-groups worldwide, close collaboration with industrial partners and up-to-date infrastructure and resources. The DERI HCLS group (http://hcls.deri.ie/) has a focus on applied research in the use of semantics in solving some key societal problems - we are getting older, we are getting sicker, and our drugs are getting more expensive. As part of our effort to address inefficiencies in various phases of the drug R&D process we are developing the use of semantics to make easier the process of knowledge discovery in in-silica research. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving this area of research forward, involving research in the use of biomedical ontologies, concepts such as linked data, semantic web technologies, social networks to provide methods, tools, and techniques to enable life scientists interact more effectively with one another, extract knowledge from existing and new literature, and ensure that their own knowledge is disseminated effectively. Research in the DERI HCLS research group is carried out in close collaboration with other research units in DERI, along with other collaborating institutions and industrial partners. Candidates should have an excellent PhD in Biomedical Informatics / Bioinformatics / Computer Science / Computational Biology or related fields. Experience with Semantic Web / Linked Data technologies, terminologies / ontologies, data integration and web technologies is an advantage. Successful candidates are expected to have the willingness to combine formal scientific work with hands-on evaluation with life scientists. Please send your application (CV, two letters of reference) in PDF format via e-mail to ronan.fox AT deri.org - by October 15th, 2010.
