Research Intern Position Philips Research North America Briarcliff Manor, NY * POSITION Philips Research is seeking applicants for a research internship position (3 months minimum, negotiable start/end dates) in its research laboratory in Briarcliff Manor, NY. The research intern will work in close collaboration with senior researchers on clinical decision support, focusing specifically on the application of semantic technologies in medicine. The intern will have lead responsibility for a project related to on-going research activities, and will aid in design and formulation of the project, be responsible for selecting appropriate technologies, independent execution of scientific and engineering tasks related to this project, and encapsulation of the results into a stand-alone application. The intern will have the opportunity to interact with researchers in a variety of fields and apply informatics expertise in support of current innovation activities within the global research program. * CANDIDATE PROFILE We seek candidates currently in a graduate program in biomedical informatics, computer science, or equivalent. Specifically, we seek candidates with the following: - experience with semantic web technologies (OWL, RDF, SPARQL), particularly with respect to reasoners and classification, rules, semantic search, and/or recommendation systems - knowledge of controlled terminologies and ontologies is required; experience within a clinical domain (UMLS, SNOMED, etc) is strongly desirable - practical programming skills in one or more of C#/.NET, C++, SQL, Java, Matlab; experience in building complete stand-alone applications is essential - experience with natural language processing (NLP) or text mining is desirable but not essential - familiarity with the medical domain, particularly radiology, is desirable but not essential * PHILIPS RESEARCH Philips Research is one of the world's largest corporate research organizations.
