NCBO Seminar Series - Meeting Info for Wed, March 18!

Hello All!

The National Center for Biomedical Ontology is pleased to announce its
next online Seminar Series, Wednesday, March 18th at 10am PST. Please
note there will not be a VOIP option, and attendees must call into the
teleconference.

This series aims to showcase new projects, technologies and ideas in
biomedical ontology by featuring the work of a different collaborator
each session. It is a webinar held online, and as such is open to anyone
interested, regardless of location or affiliation.

Below is Information on how to join next week's online meeting and
accompanying teleconference. The seminar will be presented by Kei
Cheung, Associate Professor at the Yale Center for Medical informatics.
The title of the presentation will be "WikiNeuron: Semantic Wiki of
Collective Minds in Neuroscience".

For a schedule of 2009 presentations through June, or for more
information about the series, please visit the Seminar Series home page:
http://www.bioontology.org/seminar_series.html. Information on how to
join this week's webinar is given below. To receive information on or to
join any future meetings, please contact me at skanel@stanford.edu.

The sponsoring organization, the National Center for Biomedical Ontology
(http://www.bioontology.org), is a consortium of leading biologists,
clinicians, informaticians, and ontologists who develop innovative
technology and methods allowing scientists to create, disseminate, and
manage biomedical information and knowledge in machine-processable form.

We hope to see you there.

Title: WikiNeuron: Semantic Wiki of Collective Minds in Neuroscience

Abstract: Recently, there have been an increasing number of bio-Wiki
projects including Gene Wiki, WikiProteins, WikiPathways, Proteopedia,
SNPedia, etc. To extend the Wiki frontier to the neurosciences, we have
created a collaborative and semantically-enabled Wiki prototype called
"Wiki Neuron".

This prototype allows us to explore the potential benefits of semantic
wiki technologies in collective and collaborative neuroscience knowledge
acquisition, annotation, and integration. We plan to transform the
prototype into a Wiki-based collaboratory by collaborating with
communities such as the Semantic Web, ontology, and SIOC communities. In
addition, we will utilize the resources generated by the Neuroscience
Information Framework <http://nif.nih.gov/> that aims at enhancing
neuroscience research by enabling discovery and access to research data
and tools.
