Call for Participation C-SHALS
March 5-7, 2008, Cambridge, MA, USA
www.iscb.org/cshals2008/

The 1st Annual ISCB Conference on Semantics in Healthcare & Life Sciences is
a new breakthrough event bringing pharma, healthcare and academic
researchers together in a single forum for the presentation and discussion
of practical semantics-based approaches to drug R&D. C-SHALS will feature
keynote lectures, invited talks and discussion sessions guided by leaders
and visionaries of intelligent systems for drug discovery and development.
This is not a Semantics Web conference, rather it is a conference focused on
specific applications of semantic technologies to show where advances have
been made, what the current needs are and where the field is headed. The
conference is organized along specific topics and moderated to stimulate
interactive discussions around sets of key questions. C-SHALS is intended
for anyone already involved in or interested in understanding the practical
approaches on how best to apply intelligent information technologies in
pharmaceutical R&D – if this describes you, register now to reserve your
space at this groundbreaking event!

A well rounded list of invited speakers will present the challenges faced
and applications that are working in the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals
and academic research labs.

Keynote Speakers include:

   - *Dr. Enoch Huang*, Head of Computational Sciences Center of
Emphasis, Pfizer Global Research and Development
   - *Dr. John Glaser*, Chief Information Officer, Partners Healthcare
   System
   - Dr. Isaac Kohane, MD, PhD, Harvard Medical School

Conference participants will take part in discussion sessions that explore
answers to technology questions such as the following:

   - Where are semantic applications having the biggest impact?
   - What support exists for using semantics for automated reasoning and
   agent technologies?
   - How well do semantic tools enable the visualization and utilization
   of information and knowledge?
   - Do Semantic Web standards, such as RDF, OWL, and SPARQL, have
   measurable benefits?

Conference themes to be addressed by invited speakers (see speaker list at
  www.iscb.org/cshals2008/speakers.php<http://www.iscb.org/cshals2008/speakers.php>
) :

   - Clinical Information Management
   - Discovery Information Integration
   - Integrated Healthcare and Semantics in Electronic Health Records
   - Translational Medicine / Safety
   - Search and Document Management/Business Intelligence/Text Mining
   - Text Mining/ Information Extraction

The C-SHALS conference is presented by the International Society for
Computational Biology. All ISCB members receive a substantial discount off
the registration fees. Early registration discounts close February 6, 2008 –
join ISCB and register now for double savings! www.iscb.org/cshals2008/
