I am pleased to announce to the HCLS group, that the AC has agreed to extend the current HCLSIG charter to Dec 31 2007. The original ending date was ambiguous (Sept 31, 2007 by most accounts), but the new date allows current HCLS activities to complete their tasks before the next charter would be in place. The schedule info will be posted on the main HCLS site. best, Eric -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Semantic Web Health Care and Life Sciences Interest Group extended until 31 December 2007 Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2007 01:11:43 +0000 From: Ian B. Jacobs <ij@w3.org> Organization: W3C To: w3c-ac-members@w3.org CC: ivan@w3.org, ralph@w3.org Dear Advisory Committee Representative, The Semantic Web Health Care and Life Sciences Interest Group [1] was chartered through September 2007 to provide a forum for collecting experience and supporting discussion on using Semantic Web technologies to solve life science and health care problems. The Group has done work on studying the scientific publishing process, looked at domain-specific ontologies and the use of Semantic Web technologies to support clinical trials for drug safety and efficacy, and produced a data integration demonstration that was shown at the World Wide Web Conference in May 2007. The Group is currently working on an Interest Group Note on URI best practices for the health care and life sciences community. The Semantic Web Health Care and Life Sciences Interest Group is hereby extended until 31 December 2007 to enable them to complete their Interest Group Note and continue providing a collaborative discussion forum. During this period the Team expects to develop and distribute for Advisory Committee review one or more new charters for groups in the health care and life sciences area. We expect the Interest Group to participate in the discussion of those proposed charters. More information about the Health Care and Life Sciences Interest Group is available on the group's home page [1] and in the Group's wiki [2]. This extension follows section 6.2.5 of the W3C Process Document: http://www.w3.org/2005/10/Process-20051014/groups#charter-extension For Tim Berners-Lee, Director, Ivan Herman, Semantic Web Activity Lead; Ian Jacobs, Head of W3C Communication [1] http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/hcls/ [2] http://esw.w3.org/topic/SemanticWebForLifeSciences -- Ian Jacobs (ij@w3.org) http://www.w3.org/People/Jacobs Tel: +1 718 260-9447
