Heads-up: Upcoming Patent Advisory Group for the Second Screen Working Group

Dear Second Screen Working Group,

This is a heads-up that, in accordance with the W3C Patent Policy, W3C
will launch a Patent Advisory Group (PAG) to advise the W3C on patent
disclosures and exclusions from Apple, Inc. relating to the Open Screen
Application Protocol (see second table in the group's IPR page [1]). We
anticipate that the group will be launched after "summer break", end of
August.

The patent disclosures and exclusions were made in response to the call
for exclusions [2] issued after publication of the First Public Working
Draft of the Open Screen Application Protocol, following the split of
the previous Open Screen Protocol specification into an Application part
and a Network part.

The disclosures and exclusions touch on patents and claims that had been
disclosed and excluded relating to the previous Open Screen Protocol
specification. See the previous PAG's report for details [3]. Part of
the mission of the new PAG will be to assess to what extent the analysis
set forth in the report relating to the Open Screen Protocol applies to
the Open Screen Application Protocol.

Note: The IPR page [1] currently captures the disclosure but not the
exclusions. This will eventually be clarified and updated.

If you have any questions about this PAG, feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
François
