CfC to publish two WDs of the split Open Screen Protocol: Application & Network

Hi Second Screen WG,
FYI Second Screen CG,

This is a Call for Consensus to publish new "Open Screen Application Protocol" and "Open Screen Network Protocol" Working Drafts using the latest Editor’s Drafts as the basis:

Open Screen Application Protocol
https://w3c.github.io/openscreenprotocol/application.html

Open Screen Network Protocol
https://w3c.github.io/openscreenprotocol/network.html

Background:

These two Editor’s Drafts discussed at TPAC 2024 [1] were split from the Open Screen Protocol [2] per WG resolution [3] and WG’s 2024 charter commitment [4].

Motivation:

This split is to simplify the specification work by layering, increase implementation diversity at the transport layer, and allow the relevant IETF groups to contribute to the network protocol part. The group’s aim is to bring the network protocol to the IETF Dispatch WG for consideration during 2024.

Publication logistics:

Our proposed plan is to freeze the current "all-in-one" Open Screen Protocol specification [2] and redirect its latest version to the Open Screen Application Protocol. The two new Working Drafts for Application and Network protocol will continue to evolve. We will work out the details of the publication (shortnames, CI workflows etc.) with our team contact Francois.

Please respond by 1 Nov 2024 if you have any concerns regarding these planned publications. We will publish earliest Nov 5 2024.

Thanks,

-Anssi (Second Screen WG/CG co-chair)
