TPAC 2022 - hybrid in Vancouver or fully virtual again?

Hi Second Screen WG,

In 2020 and 2021 we held W3C’s annual TPAC conferences virtually due to COVID. The previous in-person TPAC took place in Fukuoka, Japan in September 2019.

TPAC planners are now collecting early signals from WGs whether TPAC 2022 should be a hybrid or virtual meeting. If a hybrid meeting, the physical part would take place in Vancouver, Canada from 12 to 16 September 2022.

The decision on the meeting format (hybrid or virtual) will be made early April and your feedback will influence that decision.

To that end, please let us chairs know (privately, if so preferred) your best estimate, or guesstimate, on your TPAC in-person attendance likelihood on this not so exact scale by 21 March 2022:

likely / somewhat likely / unlikely / no idea

You are not committing to anything by answering. Your chairs will anonymise your feedback and roll it up to help TPAC planners make a more informed decision. That’s it.

We’re aware of various unknowns that make committing at this time impossible, such as:

- emergence of new variants, changing quarantine requirements
- company travel restrictions, policies, budgets
- national or company-wide restrictions
- border-crossing requirements

Feel free to add to this list additional considerations and unknowns to help inform the decision.

We will share with you the final decision on the TPAC format as soon as possible.

Thanks for your continued contributions and support.

Thanks,

-Anssi (Second Screen WG co-chair)
