RE: We need your brains and expertise: SDW 2022 - where next to drive impact from geospatial data?

Hi Peter - thanks for your offer. Timescales? This activity is reliant on broad community engagement and synthesis of their inputs. Engagement takes time. We're planning a workshop for the December OGC TC meeting. I expect that we'll use that to validate our draft proposal and to gain further feedback. There would be a further round of editorial after that. So may aim to publish the Discussion Paper at the first OGC TC meeting in the new year?

@Linda van den Brink<mailto:l.vandenbrink@geonovum.nl> - what do you think?

As for holiday in August. Me too. Linda will collate/coordinate input during that time.

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, SDWIGers,

What is the timeframe for producing the W3C Note / OGC Discussion Paper? I would like to help.

I'll be on holiday the middle 2 weeks of August, hopefully I and my colleagues at NRCan can work together on it before holidays as much as possible.

Thanks

Peter

Thank you,

Peter

Hi. Thanks to all who joined the SDW-IG call today. Minutes are here [1] BTW.

We discussed the 'next big thing' that our community needs to focus on; and agreed that there's still lots to do to better enable _use_ of geospatial data. Much is already published on the Web, but it often remains stuck in its silo. We get value from data when it's used. So we need to make it way easier to use the data :-)

Our plan is to draft a OGC Discussion Paper / W3C Note that describes the data interoperability challenge for spatial data on the Web, and outlines the things that need to be done and standards that need to be developed to help solve that challenge. We're hoping to use this discussion paper / note to drive the agenda for SDW over the coming 2-3 years.

Linda drafted an initial proposal to scope this work [2]. But we'd like more input please! We've created Issue #1271 for discussion on this topic. Please add your thoughts below about important issues/concerns/challenges that we might want to cover in the proposed OGC Discussion Paper / W3C Note.

Thanks all. Jeremy & Linda.
