Geonovum testbed sensor data

Dear SDWWG members and followers,
With this email I would like to announce Geonovum's new testbed on Sensor Data. In this testbed, we aim to address three practical research questions that contribute to better accessibility and ease of use for sensor data.
The testbed consists of three research questions:
1. Communicating with a Collection of Sensors
There are many use cases where one type of sensor is placed in many locations. It is very convenient to query all these sensors simultaneously with one simple action. For example: “give me all current temperature readings from the collection of temperature sensors in the municipality of Rotterdam.” We want to know how this can be achieved using various OGC API standards and what the advantages and disadvantages of each of these standards have.
2. Visualization & Analysis
An important aspect of working with sensor data is being able to obtain the data and load it into an application for visualization and analysis. With this research question is included a demonstration that this works, both in a web viewer and in a dashboard application.
3. Initial Device Registration
The initial registration of the device (also called Thing) in a system is not well documented or standardized. ‘Things’ can have multiple sensors (possibly different ones) on board that will measure values. When the thing is first powered on, it will try to connect to a service (via, for example, a LoRaWAN network or the internet) specified in the firmware. Once this connection is established, the Thing must be able to register with that service.

On January 9, we will publish the call to tender document on our website https://www.geonovum.nl/. From that date, it will also be possible to register for the information meeting we are organizing on Wednesday, January 22 at 4:30 PM.  The minutes of this meeting will be part of the information note that will be published shortly thereafter. On February 14, 2025, we will announce who has been selected to participate in this testbed.
For each of the three research themes, a budget of € 12.500 excluding 21% VAT is available.
