########## ########## ########## ########## ########## ########## CfP: Special Issue on Variety and Velocity Dimensions of Big Data International Journal on Semantic Web and Information Systems (IJSWIS) Thomson Reuters indexed (JCR) Abstract Submission: August 1st 2015 http://www.igi-global.com/calls-for-papers-special/international-journal-semantic-web-information/1092 ########## ########## ########## ########## ########## ########## ########## INTRODUCTION With the increasingly use of sensor devices, machine-to-machine communications and social networks there are large volumes of real world data that are multi-modal, dynamic and heterogeneous. One of the main challenges of the Internet of Things, Social Media Analytics and their blending in Cyber-Social-Physical Systems is to deal with large volumes of sensory and social data and to extract actionable information. Academia and industry have recently started to investigate innovative solutions to deal with the challenge of processing large-scale, multi-modal, dynamic data collected from the physical, cyber and social environments. This special issue will explore the big data solutions to extract actionable information from dynamic data coming from heterogeneous sources of information. In such environments the components of variety and velocity pose a key challenge in data federation. In this context semantics can assist in the analytics by allowing interoperability between sources of information and providing machine-interoperable metadata, but techniques proven to work for static data are at risk of not being applicable due to the lack of responsiveness. The special issue aims to gather researchers, application developers, and industry to present methods, algorithms, data models, system architectures as well as applications addressing the variety and velocity dimensions of Big Data ########## TOPICS Topics of interests for the special issue include, but are not limited to: - Dynamic semantics and responsive semantic annotation methods - Stream Reasoning - Pattern discovery across heterogeneous data streams - Adaptable and reconfigurable learning methods for multi-modal data streams - Quality of Information (QoI) in federated heterogeneous data streams - Scalability and performance analysis - Generating meaningful associations across multiple sources of streaming information - Abstracting and modelling data streams at the semantic level - Integrating semantic stream models with massive data collections - Distribution techniques and load balancing - Use-cases and applications dealing with the variety and velocity dimensions of Big Data ########## KEY DATES Abstract submission: August 1st 2015 Paper submission due: August 15th 2015 Notification: October 2nd 2015 First review due: November 30th 2016 Final decision: January 12th 2016 Estimated publication: Q1 2016 ########## SUBMISSIONS Submissions to this special issue should follow the journal's guidelines for submission (http://www.igi-global.com/publish/resources/journal-guidelines-for-submission.pdf), and the submission platform (http://www.igi-global.com/calls-for-papers-special/international-journal-semantic-web-information/1092) The length of the submitted manuscript should fall between 5,500 to 8,000 words. If a submission is based on a prior conference or workshop publication, the journal submission must demonstrate substantial differences/improvement. For such an extended manuscript, please explicitly cite previous publications on which the current submission is based, along with a note explaining the main differences/improvements. ########## INDICES IJSWIS is included in the Thomson Scientific (formerly ISI) Journal Citation Report, and in all major indices; see http://www.igi-global.com/journal/international-journal-semantic-web-information/1092 ########## GUEST EDITORS Dr Maria Bermudez-Edo, University of Surrey, United Kingdom Dr Emanuele Della Valle, Politecnico di Milano, Italy Prof Themis Palpanas, Paris Descartes University, France ########## WEBPAGE http://www.igi-global.com/calls-for-papers-special/international-journal-semantic-web-information/1092
