RE: [RIF-Abridge PS] ACTION-569

Since the normative version of the test case to be used when
running tests is XML, for testing purposes it doesn't matter how we
get to that format.

But personally, for a human readable version of the test, I find it more
useful to have it in a stable syntax defined in the recommendation. Plus,
aren't implementers of BLD going to have to be very familiar with the PS
since the semantics is defined in terms of it, and the translation to
XML,
so won't they want to have their familiarity and understanding of the PS
reinfored by seeing examples of it? I guess we have the possibility of
providing multiple non-normative versions of the test cases, like
OWL does.

Hi Hassan,

In the 26 Aug telecon we only decided to create a page for the *abridged*
syntax.
Cf. ACTION: http://www.w3.org/2005/rules/wg/track/actions/569

* The APS is not normative but just a compact notation,
which should become dialect-independent,
as needed, e.g., for UCR and the test cases.
* The APS is an optional addition only.
* The APS evolution can thus follow a different time-line,
so should be decoupled from the evolution of the other documents.

The PS, on the other hand, is an official part of documents such as BLD
(in LC),
FLD, and Core. Each of these documents should stay independent from APS.

Best,
Harold

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for creating this page. Why not also include *all* PS syntactic
rules
and conventions, whether abridged or not, explicitly including all the
rules
imported from other W3C WG's documents (as used by Axel's EBNF rules for
the
APS)? It'd be nice not to have to go back and forth between 4 or 5
documents
in order to have the whole picture.

Thank you.

I have created a page to document the abridged presentation syntax
