Dear Advisory Committee Representative,

The Rule Interchange Format Working Group [1] was chartered until
30 November 2007 to produce a specification for a core rule language
plus extensions which together allow rules to be translated between
rule languages and thus transferred between rule systems. The
Group has found significant challenges in combining and addressing
the desires of the communities represented by the Group participants
and the initial phase of the Group's deliberations have taken much
longer than was anticipated. Although the Group has not yet met
the initial milestone to deliver a core dialect, the second working
draft published on 30 October [2,3] now contains sufficient details
with which the Group feels it should be possible to build interoperable
implementations. The Group now plans to reach Last Call on the
first dialect by the end of May 2008.

The Group has asked that its charter be extended to reach that
milestone. If that milestone is reached, the group expects to ask for an
additional extension to carry that dialect through to Rec and proceed
with other dialects.

The Rule Interchange Format Working Group is hereby extended
until 31 May 2008.

More information about the Rule Interchange Format Working Group
is available on the group's home page [1] and in the Semantic Web
Activity home page [4].
