Hello, Regarding the way we are grappling with mixed levels of definitions, and trying to get more savvy about using diagrams such as UML and worrying about what these diagrams means for whom, it is good to agree at least on the semantics of "semantics". The following is interesing reading: Meaningful Modeling: What's the Semantics of "Semantics" - by D.Harel and B.Rumpe - Computer. Oct. 2004. http://citeseer.ist.psu.edu/harel04modeling.html A shortbut accurate summary of the paper's contents is given there: http://people.type-z.org/zoe/Lectures/biblio/index.php?2007/02/07/18-notes-meaningful-modeling-what-s-the-semantics-of-semantics-dharel-brumpe-oct-2004 -hak -- Hassan Aït-Kaci ILOG, Inc. - Product Division R&D tel/fax: +1 (604) 930-5603 - email: hak @ ilog . com
