In reference to action 126, I have tentatively added the following paragraph to the wiki page for the UCR document introduction. ----------------------------- It is important to understand that not all of these requirements are directly generated by functionality described in one or more of the use cases presented in section 2. Some of the requirements, e.g. "XML syntax" for the RIF, are directly stated or implied by the working group charter. Some requirements are generated by the desire to guarantee that certain types of rule languages are within the scope of the RIF, e.g., the "RDF data" requirement. Some requirements, e.g., "Implementability," are requirements on the RIF as a whole, and do not need to be motivated by use cases. Such requirements are similar to what are called "non-functional" requirements in software engineering, since they are not connected with specific functionality delivered by incorporation of the RIF within a system or application. ------------------------------------- Allen
